here's a thought to ruminate on..
if you are thin, you wish you were a bit "rounder"
if you are on the heavier side, you wish you were skinny - like those models
if you are okay with your weight, you want to be shorter/taller
If you are okay with your height, you want more money
If you have money, you want a better education
If you are well-educated, you want to look glamorous
If you are glamorous, you want to be intelligent
If you had all that, you want a great spouse
if you have a great spouse, you want a nice house
ONce you have a house, you want a vacation home
Once you have a BMW, you want ??? a different car
If you have all this, you want to be younger
If you were young and had all this, you want more excitement
If you have everything , then you want to find out the meaning of life...since life now seems dull and empty...
Want want want.. whine whine whine...
I wonder.. Does innovation and human advancement thrive on discontentment? What would happen if everyone on earth were content to be as they are, who they are and with who they are... ??????/

what about curiosity? i think that drives people as well. and one can be curious and be content both at the same time...don't you think?
You have a good point - My mom said the same thing... I am finding it hard to distinguish between the two - does discontentment drive curiosity?
I think sometimes its curiosity, like archaeological expeditions and stuff, but when I think of inventions or innovation i.e creating something that wasnt there before, not sure if it comes from just curiosity - it might start with curiosity, but not sure if just curiosity can keep someone up day & night working on a seemingly impossible problem - at that point I amost feel it needs to be called something else...
